Hurricane Preparedness

Before a storm:

  • Make sure you are listening for your generator to run its weekly exercise. 

  • Have your generator serviced annually to ensure fluids, battery, and other components are ready to run. 

  • Always use battery operated carbon monoxide detectors. 

  • Unplug small appliances that you will not use during the storm. 

  • Be prepared with a storm box of extra oil, filter, spark plugs in case generator is running for extended periods of time.

  • Keep at least 3 ft of clearance around generator. 

  • Check the inside of the enclosure to make sure it is free from debris.  

During a storm:

After a storm:

  • If your generator has ran over 100 run hours, contact Downsouth Generator's office to schedule a maintenance visit to ensure your generator is ready for the next storm.
